GENERAL INFORMATION
It is preferable that initial training of the dog should be carried out by one handler only, either here at the centre or at home. Multi handling, especially with a young dog can cause it to become confused. Training a dog requires patience, understanding and hard work. We can train the handler to train his/her dog. We cannot train your dog for you. Homework is absolutely essential. Ten minutes, two or three times daily, is enough for a beginner, increasing as your dog becomes advanced. The best place to practice is in your house or garden or even in the middle of a walk.

When teaching your dog, keep to one exercise until it is understood, and do a minimal amount of other exercises. If your dog gets bored or it is just not interested on any particular day, do one simple, successful exercise (one the dog knows very well) and then pack up for that day. Dogs cannot tell us how they feel and they get off days just like us. Also, if you are not in the right frame of mind, then avoid training your dog. Never lose your temper with your dog! Always use commands when training. Dogs learn commands by repetition and reward. We train using play motivated techniques.

We wish you every success in training your dog and we hope that you and your dog will enjoy being with us. Please do not hesitate to contact an instructor if you have any particular problems or need specific advice. All instructors are experienced and have qualified with the British Institute of Professional Dog Trainers.
